Quarterly Lectures

IAHA Quarterly Lectures provide a high-level detailed exploration of a current health law topic. The 75-minute lectures feature expert speakers with first-hand experience with the topic and often include spirited audience discussion.

Past lectures have addressed gain sharing/pay-for-performance, problem physicians, managed care contracting, electronic medical records, medical malpractice in Illinois, and joint ventures.

The lectures take place at the offices of Katten Muchin Rosenman, conveniently located near trains and parking at 525 West Monroe. Lectures start with refreshments at 8:00 AM and conclude by 9:45 AM.

Attendees can earn 1.25 hours of Illinois MCLE credit. Lectures are free for IAHA members and only $50 for non-members.

Building on the Diversity & Inclusion Keynote at the 2017 Health Law Symposium, IAHA is pleased to present Diversity & Inclusion in the Law Office: 25 Tips in 60 Minutes.

Our speaker will set a baseline understanding of diversity and inclusion and then move through a rapid fire presentation of the obstacles to inclusion, defining unconscious bias and micro-inequities, and how to overcome them in your policies, procedures, recruiting and retention. This presentation is full of ideas and resources that can be used by those just starting initiatives in their organization or those looking for new inspiration.

IAHA members are encouraged to invite legal administrators, human resource professionals, or other colleagues from their law offices.

Speaker:

Mariel Piilola, JD, is the Director of Administration at the Minneapolis law firm of Larkin Hoffman. She is Immediate Past Chair of the Committee on Diversity and Inclusion of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) and co-authored the ALA Diversity Toolkit, published in the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession’s IILP Review 2017: The State of Diversity and Inclusion in the Legal Profession.

The ALA Diversity Initiative aims to increase awareness of and sensitivity to the differences among our workforce and to advance the concept of inclusiveness and acceptance. ALA’s goal is to increase diversity and inclusion in the Association, in the legal management community and in all legal service organizations.
