MCLE CREDITS

IAHA is an Accredited MCLE Provider, which means that all of its educational programs earn attendees MCLE credits.

The Supreme Court of Illinois has established minimum continuing legal education ("MCLE") requirements for Illinois attorneys. In general, those attorneys newly-admitted to the Illinois bar after October 1, 2011, must obtain 15 MCLE credit hours, with several options to fulfill this requirement, within the first year. After that, the first two-year reporting period begins on the next July 1 of an even-numbered year for last names beginning A through M and on the next July 1 of an odd-numbered year for last names beginning N through Z.

For subsequent two-year reporting periods and for other than newly-admitted attorneys, the required MCLE credit hours increase to 30 credit hours beginning with the reporting period ending on June 30 of either 2012 or 2013, for last names beginning A through M and N through Z, respectively. At least six of those credit hours must be in the area of professionalism, diversity issues, mental illness and addiction issues, civility, or legal ethics.

Attorneys must maintain their own certificates of attendance and other proof of MCLE compliance. At the end of each reporting period, attorneys must report to the MCLE Board whether they have complied with the MCLE Rules, have not complied with the MCLE Rules, or are exempt from the MCLE Rules.
