LIFE SCIENCESIn September 2006, the IAHA Board of Directors voted to add attorneys representing life sciences companies as voting members. The IAHA Life Sciences Steering Committee was created, co-chaired by Laura Keidan Martin and Jennie Jendusa Orrico. On June 14, 2007, IAHA sponsored its first life sciences seminar, which was held in Northbrook. Bernadette Broccolo of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and Priya Mannan of Baxter International Inc. presented Maintaining the Integrity of Clinical Research Relationships: Avoiding Common Conflict of Interest and Kickback Pitfalls. We included two concurrent sessions at our 2007 Symposium on life sciences related issues: "Life Sciences Legal Issues: Managing the Hospital, Physician and Vendor Relationships," presented by Kevin McAnaney and Jennie Jendusa Orrico; and "Practical Tips for Handling Government Investigations," presented by Kathleen McDermott and Dean Polales. Also, the December 4, 2007 Quarterly Lecture included a remote location at Baxter International in Deerfield, inviting attorneys representing life sciences companies to attend the presentation entitled "Sleeping Through the Night: Practical Tips for Attorneys on Avoiding Personal Liability Related to Advising Healthcare Clients" via teleconference. On January 16, 2008, the IAHA Board of Directors agreed to fold the Life Sciences Steering Committee into the IAHA Membership Committee. Click here for committee listing. This committee will, among its regular duties, reach out to attorneys who represent life sciences companies and develop a series of seminars specific to this field. © 1997-2006 Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys |
